This is my first time at the 10 bit recording rodeo...I've been thinking about it a long time and feeling limited to the 6-8 stop DR and inky video edge of standard 8 bit output. Now that I took the plunge, it feels like the first cell phone I purchased back in 1994 (before, "What's the big deal?" after, "OMG, how did I ever live without one of these for so long?"). You can always start with an excellent camera at the heart of your system (Panny GH4 for me); however, as I am discovering, the tools now available to add significant creative potential and marked increase in overall image quality to any camera are just mind boggling. The creative control over your video image this thing provides is truly mind blowing and would not have been available at any price as little as 10 years ago. I did a LOT of research and feature/capabilities comparison between different makes, models and companies. In a perfect world, yes, I wish it recorded 4.4.4 12 bit raw, even though I don't have a camera now that outputs 12 bit. I wish it did 4K at 60 fps and had XLR inputs for audio. I also wish it came with a metal body, preferably of lightweight magnesium, instead of plastic; although it looks pretty tough and I have no future plans to drop it. I also wish it recorded to regular SD cards instead of SSDs, but if you do any amount of research, you'll discover the bitrate transfer of recording 10 bit color requires write speeds of at least 200mb/sec. There's only a handful of SD cards out there now that can write faster than 200mb/s and they are still pretty pricey for the amount of storage you get, so until a major technological boost brings down the cost and raises the capacity of regular SD cards, SSD is looking pretty good now.Pros:- SSD storage medium is plentiful and cheap and this thing isn't picky, it eats almost anything; unlike the Black Magic Design's new 4K Video Assist Recorder which is very temperamental about which storage media it accepts.- Double Sony battery on board. Has TWO rear slots for standard Sony F series batteries. Yeah! You won't be forking out extra $$$ to invest in some new or archaic battery system.- Beautiful touchscreen interface. Loaded with wonderful tools, display options and scopes...very intuitive; with no instructions and just playing around, you'll get a grip on everything in about five minutes.- Bright 1500 NIT screen illumination: (that's why it's called the "Flame.")- Everything except recording media is included, including two batteries, SSD caddies, and really heavy duty pelican style travel case.- EXCELLENT image quality with latest HDR technology. Once you go 10 bit, you never go back to 8, baybee!- New lower, competitive pricing of $1295 is awesome.- 1 year warranty the manufacturer extends to 3 once you register online.Cons:- Plastic housing, but then again, you're not popping $2000-$3000 for a Creative Solutions machine. Don't drop it!- Doesn't record 12 bit. Unless you have a camera that will output 12 bit (and most of us don't), this is a non-issue.- Doesn't record 4K out @ 60fps. Oh well, I guess people in Hell also want ice water:-)- No XLR inputs. Everything audio inputs via 3/8 unbalanced line.- HDMI. No SDI image processing. Unless you are a serious pro producer, this really doesn't matter. Not perfect, but an EXCELLENT value given what you are getting and an AMAZING creative tool which will completely step up your video game.Highly recommended!

Simply awesome! The Ninja flame lets you see in bright sunlight when shooting log outside. HDR mode is awesome and something I wouldn't want to shoot without. The only gripe I have is the focus peaking system, the focus peaking lines should be more bold and easily visible to the eye like they are on Sony cameras.

This thing is amazing. I use it with my Sony A7Sii and the 10 Bit 4K you get out of this is a lot sharper than the in camera 4K. The quality is mind blowing. Only downfall is that it does not support 120fps like the specs say cause of the HDMI cable and also the file sizes are huge so get more storage. But if you are looking to take your quality to the next step this is the one.
